Process Features
Shot peening is a process of treating a workpiece surface with flying shot made of steel, ceramics or glass. Under the action of compressed air jet the shot is accelerated to high speeds and hits the workpiece surface. Shot continuously bombards the workpiece, forming multiple overlapping micro-dents on its surface. Material around the dent resists deformation, which leads to the occurrence of compression stresses in this area. By uniformly processing the workpiece, shot peening creates compressive stresses across its entire surface, increasing its hardness and resistance to fatigue cracking and corrosion.
A distinctive feature of these systems is the ability to accurately dose shot, as well as the presence of means for controlling the shape and size of the shot used in processing.
