Process Features
Shot peening is a surface treatment process that improves the mechanical properties of a workpiece by bombarding its surface with high-velocity media particles made of steel, ceramic, or glass. The shot is accelerated by a controlled stream of compressed air and directed onto the workpiece surface, creating a series of overlapping micro-indentations.
The surrounding material resists plastic deformation, resulting in the formation of beneficial compressive residual stresses within the treated surface layer. Through uniform processing, shot peening introduces a consistent compressive stress profile across the entire surface, significantly enhancing material hardness, fatigue strength, and resistance to crack initiation and corrosion.
A key advantage of advanced shot peening systems is their ability to precisely control and meter the shot flow, while maintaining strict control over the size, shape, and quality of the media used during the process. This ensures repeatable treatment results and consistent coating-free surface enhancement.
